Lore
Jill Valentine's last escape from a collapsing Raccoon City, hunted every step of the way by Nemesis.
The Escape and Nemesis' Hunt
September 28, 1998 — on the eve of Raccoon City's absolute collapse. Jill Valentine, former S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team operative, fights desperately to break through streets overrun by zombies following the catastrophic T-Virus outbreak. Her escape is quickly jeopardized when Umbrella deploys its most lethal bioweapon: the Nemesis-T Type, an intelligent Tyrant engineered with a singular objective — track down and eliminate every surviving member of S.T.A.R.S. who knows the truth behind the mansion incident.
Right at the front gates of the Raccoon Police Department (R.P.D.), Jill watches in horror as Nemesis brutally executes her teammate Brad Vickers. From that moment on, the unrelenting hunter stalks Jill through the burning city, armed with a rocket launcher and overwhelming physical power.
U.B.C.S. and the Cable Car to the Clock Tower
In Downtown Raccoon City, Jill crosses paths with surviving operatives from Umbrella's mercenary unit, the U.B.C.S. (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service): Carlos Oliveira, Lieutenant Mikhail Victor, and Sergeant Nicholai Ginovaef, who were deployed believing they were conducting a genuine humanitarian rescue mission.
Overcoming her deep mistrust of Umbrella forces, Jill joins forces with Carlos to collect the necessary components and repair an abandoned cable car — their only route to the extraction point at the St. Michael Clock Tower. During transit, Nemesis violently ambushes the car; in a selfless act of heroism, Mikhail sacrifices himself by detonating a grenade inside the compartment to save Jill and Carlos, derailing the train directly into the Clock Tower courtyard.
Infection, the Clock Tower, and the Hospital
Jill solves the tower's clockwork mechanisms to sound the emergency evacuation bell. But just as the rescue helicopter descends, Nemesis shoots it down with a rocket launcher and infects Jill with the T-Virus via its tentacles. Though Jill narrowly brings the creature down, she collapses into a deep coma from the infection.
Carlos Oliveira carries Jill to the Clock Tower chapel and rushes to the nearby Raccoon General Hospital in a desperate race for an antidote. There, he uncovers the truth: Nicholai is an undercover Umbrella supervisor sent to gather combat data and eliminate witnesses. After dodging lethal Hunter Betas and escaping the hospital's demolition set by Nicholai, Carlos synthesizes the vaccine and rushes back to save Jill's life.
The Nuclear Option and Final Annihilation
October 1, 1998. With the outbreak beyond containment, the United States government authorizes a thermonuclear missile strike to sterilize and incinerate Raccoon City before daybreak.
Awakening fully cured, Jill ventures through the city park and infiltrates Umbrella's secret Waste Disposal Plant (Dead Factory). There, she faces Nemesis in its terminal mutation — a grotesque, massive wall of mutated flesh after consuming a discarded Tyrant corpse. Utilizing the experimental rail cannon Sword of Paracelsus, Jill disintegrates the monster once and for all. Jill and Carlos board a rescue helicopter (piloted by Barry Burton) and escape seconds before the nuclear missile levels Raccoon City to ashes.
