Secrets

Costumes, the Alchemy Room's medallions, plate-key combinations, and the four different ways the game can end.

Alchemy Rooms & Medallions

A small Alchemy Room sits tucked away in each major area — the Castle, the Old Mansion, the Underground labs, and the House of Truth. Each one holds a Perpetua Machina, a slot-machine-style device that turns Medallions into items: drop one in, stop the spinning colors by pressing the action button, and matching colors across the slots pays out. If you're ever completely out of basic supplies, the bowl in the room also hands out free Magnesia and Antimony Powder.

Which Medallion you feed the machine decides what comes back:

  • Medallion — random colors, can produce almost anything
  • Album Medallion (white) — Fiona's recovery items
  • Viola Medallion (blue) — Hewie's recovery items
  • Viride Medallion (green) — Fiona's equipment
  • Rubrum Medallion (red) — battle weapons
  • Magist Medallion (gold) — the rarest tier, high-value items across the board

Once you've finished the game at least once, a second machine appears next to the Perpetua Machina in these rooms. It doesn't take Medallions — it takes finished Plate Keys and trades them for a matching piece of equipment.

Plate Keys

Several doors and devices in the castle don't take an ordinary key — they take a word spelled out on a plate-key machine's lettered tiles. Type the right word, and the completed plate-key unlocks its matching lock, statue, or box. Here's what each one does and where it's used:

  • EMETH — used on the Golem in the Golem Room; no item reward
  • METH — used on the same Golem instead of Emeth; rewards the Obsidian Choker
  • MAGNUS — used on the red box in the Castle's doll room; rewards the Jade Choker and the Inquisitor Earrings
  • ADAMAS — used on the plate-key equipment machine (post-completion); rewards the Diamond Choker
  • ALCHYMIA — used on the plate-key equipment machine; rewards the Alchemist Earrings
  • MORGAN — used on the plate-key equipment machine; rewards the Fairy Earrings
  • POWDER — used on the plate-key equipment machine; rewards the Burst Boots
  • SALTATIO — used on the Rock Golem in the Crypt; triggers the Para-Para Dance instead of handing over an item
  • REST — assembled from the two Cracked Plate-Keys (RE and ST); opens the Castle Restroom

Easter Eggs

Para-Para Dance

Easter Egg

The game's one pure joke Easter egg — inserting the SALTATIO plate-key into the Crypt's Rock Golem sets off a ten-second dance routine instead of anything ominous. It also happens to fully heal Fiona, so it's worth using again whenever you're back in the Crypt and running low.

Unlock Condition
Make the SALTATIO plate-key and use it on the Rock Golem in the Crypt
Rewards
  • A short dance cutscene
  • Fully restores Fiona's stamina

Water Tower Machine

A separate machine near the entrance to the Water Tower lets you trade in certain key items you're still holding onto for something new, instead of using them for their original purpose. It accepts the Cracked Plate-Keys, Wilted Flowers, the Smudged Key, the Castle Gate Key, a Jupiter Key you've already used once, and the three Mansion Library books. It's a separate system from the Prima Materia refining chain that produces the White Godstone elsewhere — check this machine before assuming a spare key item is dead weight.

Costumes

Fiona's Alternate Outfits

Costume Unlock

Clearing the game unlocks a growing wardrobe of alternate outfits for Fiona, some tied to a specific ending rather than just completion — try each on from the closet in the Castle Bedroom.

Unlock Condition
Finish the game once for most outfits; specific ones require a specific ending
Rewards
  • Fiona B — hair down, barefoot (finish the game once)
  • Under the Scalpel (finish the game once)
  • Illegal in Some States — whip replaces her kick (finish the game once)
  • Fiona the Frog — reduced backstep stamina cost (earn Ending C)
  • Texas Cowgirl — a slow prop gun replaces her kick (earn Ending A)

Hewie's Alternate Looks

Costume Unlock

Hewie gets his own alternate looks tied to prior clears — the Stuffed Dog Outfit in particular is worth chasing on a Hard Mode run, since making him unkillable removes the game's harshest fail state.

Unlock Condition
Finish the game once for the German Shepherd swap; clear Hard Mode with a prior Top Breeder or Dog Lover title for the Stuffed Dog Outfit
Rewards
  • Brown-and-black German Shepherd — stronger, but harder to control
  • Stuffed Dog Outfit — makes Hewie invincible (he can still tire out or need feeding)

Unlockables

The Secret Room

Bonus Content

A repurposed version of the Castle Bedroom, unlocked once you've cleared the game. Alongside the usual bonus-content gallery, it hides a genuinely different minigame: you play as Hewie, guiding Fiona away from a pursuer toward each level's goal, escalating from Debilitas up through Flaming Lorenzo.

Unlock Condition
Finish the game once
Rewards
  • Costume try-on
  • Titles list (shows every plate-key code you've unlocked)
  • Concept art and character designs
  • The full music list and every cutscene you've seen
  • A 4-level minigame played as Hewie

Hard Mode

Game Mode Unlock

A genuinely different run rather than a stat bump: Hewie can now die outright if his health hits critical, Camomile and Lavender are removed from the world entirely, Failures show up far earlier (including during the very first Debilitas chase), and Luminessants are more numerous and respawn after you lose them. Every pursuer also gets a palette-swapped redesign. Treat it as a New Game+ challenge run, not the way to experience the story for the first time.

Unlock Condition
Finish the game once, with any ending
Rewards
  • Unlocks Hewie's Stuffed Dog Outfit on a subsequent clear

Endings

Ending A — Fortes Fortuna Juvat

Story Ending

Fiona and Hewie reach the castle gate together. As they leave, Debilitas himself appears one last time — not to chase them, but to bow respectfully before going back to tending the garden alone.

Unlock Condition
Defeat Debilitas using the chandelier, and keep an A-grade friendship with Hewie
Rewards
  • The best ending for both Fiona and Hewie
  • Unlocks Fiona's Texas Cowgirl costume

Ending B — Ignis Aurum Probat

Story Ending

Fiona and Hewie make it out through the castle gate with no extra epilogue beat — a solid escape, just without the added closure Ending A gives Debilitas.

Unlock Condition
Defeat Debilitas without using the chandelier, with at least a C-grade friendship with Hewie
Rewards
  • A clean escape for Fiona and Hewie

Ending C — Dona Nobis Pacem

Story Ending

This route lets Fiona leave through the front gate long before the story would normally end. As she and Hewie escape, Lorenzo chases after her down the stairs, collapsing before he can stop her — a rare glimpse that he wanted more than just her Azoth.

Unlock Condition
On a second playthrough or later: defeat Debilitas with the chandelier, collect the Smudged Key from him afterward, use it on the restroom cubicle for the Castle Gate Key, then use that key on the main gate
Rewards
  • An early exit that skips the rest of the game
  • Unlocks Fiona's Frog costume

Ending D — Tu Fui, Ego Eris

Story Ending

Without Hewie there to save her, Fiona is captured at the cliff. The game closes on her, months later, kept in what used to be the castle bedroom — pregnant, and no longer entirely herself.

Unlock Condition
Let Hewie's friendship level fall to its lowest point (neglect or mistreat him during the Chapter 3 forest sequence and don't go find him before the cliff scene)
Rewards
  • The worst outcome in the game
