Enemies

PMC soldiers, FROGs, Gekko walkers, and the Beauty and the Beast Corps — how each one fights and how to put them down.

PMC Soldiers

Encounter

Standard private military contractors, present in every warzone Snake passes through. Their reactions and aim are boosted by SOP, so getting spotted rarely stays a one-on-one problem for long — take them down quietly whenever possible.

Location
Every Act
Recommendations
  • CQC chokeholds or a suppressed sidearm for silent takedowns
  • Watch their SOP-linked alert state on the Threat Ring before engaging

FROGs

Elite

Liquid's all-female special forces unit, trained to move fast, climb walls, and flank in packs. Far more dangerous than a standard PMC soldier one-on-one.

Location
South America, Europe, Outer Haven
Recommendations
  • Suppressed rifle at range before they close in
  • Avoid melee — their acrobatics make CQC risky

Gekko

Elite

Bipedal battle robots that run on a captured animal brain instead of a conventional AI. Fast, strong, and dangerous up close — always go for a leg first.

Location
South America, Europe, Shadow Moses
Recommendations
  • Shoot out a leg joint to cripple its mobility before finishing it off
  • RPG-7 or Rail Gun for a fast kill

Dwarf Gekko

Encounter

Smaller, mass-produced Gekko units guarding Shadow Moses' interior labs and warehouses. Individually weak, but they swarm in numbers.

Location
Shadow Moses
Recommendations
  • Any automatic weapon works at close range
  • Watch for their laser targeting dot before they open fire

Bosses

Laughing Octopus

Boss · Hard

First of the Beauty and the Beast Corps. She camouflages against walls, mimics dead soldiers and lab mannequins, and lashes out with tentacle mines — corner her with a heavier weapon once she's taken serious damage, then finish the fight non-lethally with the tranquilizer gun.

Location
South America — Advanced Research Lab
Recommendations
  • Night vision to track her while camouflaged
  • Watch the radar and footstep sounds, not just your eyes
  • Tranquilizer gun for the follow-up phase to earn a non-lethal kill

Raging Raven

Boss · Hard

Commands a flock of remote-controlled raven drones and can vanish and reappear in bursts of crows. Explosive splash damage catches her far more often than a clean rifle shot.

Location
Europe — rooftop chase, then a dedicated arena
Recommendations
  • Explosive weapons land more reliably than direct-fire guns
  • Stay near cover during the motorcycle chase segment leading into the fight
  • Switch to tranquilizers once her health is low

Crying Wolf

Boss · Hard

Fights from inside a wolf-shaped exoskeleton across a wide, open snowfield, closing distance fast when provoked. Track her by footprints and the direction of the wind, then put a sniper round into her exposed body the moment she surfaces.

Location
Shadow Moses — snowfield
Recommendations
  • M14 EBR or another sniper rifle
  • Check wind direction to spot her scent trail and locate her wolf-suit
  • One well-placed shot per exposed sighting does heavy damage

Screaming Mantis

Boss · Deadly

Possesses Meryl and uses her as a living shield. Break free of the mind control, then shoot the psychic dolls orbiting her to expose her real body — tranquilize her rather than risk hitting Meryl.

Location
Outer Haven — command center
Recommendations
  • Use the syringe on yourself to break free of her mind control
  • Shoot down the psychic dolls circling her
  • Never fire directly at Meryl while she's being puppeted

Vamp

Boss · Hard

A near-unkillable assassin whose accelerated healing makes bullets pointless. Dodge his attacks, grapple him with CQC once he's staggered, and finish him with the syringe instead of burning ammunition on a fight you can't win with gunfire alone.

Location
Shadow Moses — underground research area
Recommendations
  • Equip the syringe before the fight starts
  • Dodge his knife rush, then grab him from behind with CQC and inject the syringe

Liquid Ocelot / Metal Gear REX

Boss · Deadly

Liquid pilots the original Metal Gear REX against Snake, who fights back with Otacon's rebuilt Metal Gear MK. III. Whittle down REX's armor with homing missiles, then land the scripted finishing blow whenever the fight cues you to.

Location
Shadow Moses — REX hangar
Recommendations
  • Homing missiles and the laser to strip REX's armor
  • Follow Otacon's prompts for the finishing strike each time REX surfaces from the water
