Items

OctoCamo, the Solid Eye, Snake's Mk. II/III support robots, and every other piece of gear that keeps him alive and unseen.

Equipment

OctoCamo Sneaking Suit

Key Item

Snake's signature suit for this mission — modeled after an octopus's own camouflage. Press against a wall, floor, or piece of terrain and it gradually reads and mimics the surface, replacing manual camo-pattern selection from earlier games.

Location
Given during the Act 1 tutorial
Effects
  • Automatically matches the color and pattern of any surface Snake presses against
  • Raises camo index the longer Snake stays still against a matching texture

Solid Eye

Key Item

Otacon's homemade successor to the old Codec earpiece and Mk. 22 goggles — a single eyepiece that covers night vision, target marking, and short-range communication in one device.

Location
Starting equipment
Effects
  • Built-in night vision and binoculars, toggled with a button press
  • Displays a Threat Ring around Snake showing nearby enemy positions and their alert state

Mk. II Support Robot

Key Item

A small remote-controlled drone that follows Snake through the first three Acts, run by Drebin's network. Whatever weapon it "unlocks" off a downed enemy becomes available in the shop.

Location
Received from Drebin at the start of Act 1
Effects
  • Remotely scouts ahead and marks enemies on the map
  • Unlocks looted weapons for purchase at Drebin's shop
  • Can distract or briefly stun a single guard

Mk. III Support Robot

Key Item

Otacon's own upgraded version of the support drone, built after Snake and Drebin part ways. Handy for locked doors that would otherwise need brute force.

Location
Rebuilt by Otacon and delivered from Act 4 onward
Effects
  • Replaces the Mk. II once Snake breaks away from Drebin's network
  • Can pick locks and open sealed doors on its own
  • Doubles as a decoy and a light melee weapon in a pinch

Consumables

Ration

Recovery Item

The series' classic recovery item. Always worth stockpiling before a boss fight — you can't heal mid-fight against most of the Beauty and the Beast Corps.

Location
Found throughout every Act, or purchased from Drebin
Effects
  • Restores a large portion of Snake's health instantly

Noodles

Consumable

A quick snack that lowers stress. Psyche affects Snake's aim and reaction time, so keeping it topped up before a firefight matters as much as keeping his health up.

Location
Found in various break rooms and kitchens
Effects
  • Reduces Snake's Psyche stress meter

Pentazemin

Consumable

A sedative that keeps Snake's hands rock-steady for precision shots — essential before lining up a sniper shot on Crying Wolf.

Location
Found in medical supply areas, or purchased from Drebin
Effects
  • Steadies Snake's aim by stopping weapon sway, similar to Diazepam in past games

Regain

Consumable

An energy drink that refills Snake's stamina bar on the spot, keeping him from tiring out during a long stealth sequence or firefight.

Location
Found in supply crates, or purchased from Drebin
Effects
  • Restores stamina instantly

Syringe

Key Item

A one-time-use item built specifically around the Vamp showdown at Shadow Moses — grab him with CQC once he's down and use it to end the fight without wasting ammunition.

Location
Carried from the middle of the story onward
Effects
  • Used to inject Vamp with a serum that finally stops his self-healing for good

Digital Camera

Item

Mostly a collectible tool — useful for tracking down every camouflage pattern and ghost photograph hidden around Shadow Moses.

Location
Found early in Act 1
Effects
  • Photographs enemies, items, and scenery for the in-game album

iPod

Item

A running collectible: dozens of music tracks, from past Metal Gear soundtracks to unlockable extras, are scattered across every warzone Snake passes through.

Location
Found piece by piece throughout every Act
Effects
  • Plays unlocked music tracks over the game audio while exploring
