Enemies

Soviet patrols, the Ocelot Unit, and the Cobra Unit's seven legendary operatives — where you'll run into each one and how to survive them.

Soviet Soldiers (KGB / GRU)

Encounter

Standard patrollers guarding every installation. If they spot you, they open fire with their AK-47s and immediately call in their squad by radio — they'll also spread out and sweep an area with grenades once alerted.

Location
Dremuchij, Bolshaya Past, Groznyj Grad
Recommendations
  • Take them down from behind and destroy their radios
  • Hide bodies so patrols don’t stumble onto them

Ocelot Unit (Spetsnaz)

Elite

Elite commando infantry, recognizable by their black or high-end camouflage uniforms. If spotted, they flank aggressively and fire with far better accuracy than regular patrols.

Location
Rassvet ruins, Bolshaya Past trenches
Recommendations
  • Use grenades to break up their coordination before engaging
  • Fight from cover — they use it better than regular soldiers

Guard Dogs

Encounter

Large military dogs that track by scent — camouflage does nothing against them. Once they catch your smell, they pin you down by biting your arm while barking to summon every nearby soldier.

Location
Bolshaya Past, Groznyj Grad
Recommendations
  • A quick tranquilizer headshot at range works best
  • The Croc Cap grants permanent immunity

Hovercraft Soldiers

Encounter

Infantry patrolling loud floating platforms over the swamps and cliffs, firing rifles at high speed from above. Their elevated vantage point makes them tough to sneak up on.

Location
Ponizovje estuary
Recommendations
  • Submerge or take cover — their overhead angle makes them hard to ambush

Scientists

Encounter

Unarmed lab staff. They never attack, but if they get suspicious of your disguise, they'll panic, run, and slam the nearest alarm switch.

Location
Graniny Gorki labs
Recommendations
  • Knock them out from behind or intimidate them at gunpoint

Flamethrower Troops

Encounter

Soldiers armed with stolen M2 flamethrowers, sent by Volgin as payback after you take down The Pain, The Fear, and The End. Their fire travels faster than you can run, so don't try to outpace it in a straight line.

Location
Krasnogorje mountaintop
Recommendations
  • Keep your distance — the flame stream outruns Snake and can hit around corners
  • Take them down at range before they can close in

Bosses

The Pain

Boss · Medium

A member of Cobra Unit whose entire body is covered in a living bee-and-wasp armor that shrugs off conventional bullets. Dive into water to dodge his insect swarms, then break his shield with a shotgun or grenades before finishing him off unprotected.

Location
Chyornaya Peschera Caves
Recommendations
  • Submerge in water to dodge his wasp swarms and grenades
  • Shotgun or explosives strip his armor, then unload on his exposed body

The Fear

Boss · Hard

An extremely agile Cobra Unit sniper who leaps between branches using active optical camouflage. He fights with a pair of named crossbows — William Tell and Little Joe — switching between normal, poison, explosive, and incendiary bolts. Equip the thermal goggles to track his body heat and fire while he's reloading or distracted feeding.

Location
Graniny Gorki forest
Recommendations
  • Thermal goggles reveal him even through his optical camouflage
  • Shoot while he reloads or stops to feed

The End

Boss · Hard

A century-old master of absolute camouflage who never engages in close combat, sniping from hundreds of meters away. If he tranquilizes you, he captures you and sends you back to redo the whole approach — the fight is a slow, tense hunting duel, not a firefight.

Location
Svyatogornyj forest
Recommendations
  • Use thermal goggles to spot footprints and the directional mic to hear his breathing
  • Crawl carefully to sneak up behind him

The Fury

Boss · Medium

A Cobra Unit member in a bulletproof cosmonaut suit and jetpack, who torches the dark tunnels with a powerful flamethrower. Hit-and-run attacks from behind work best in the claustrophobic corridors he fights in.

Location
Groznyj Grad trenches and tunnels
Recommendations
  • Strike from behind with the knife or heavy weapons, then retreat and repeat

The Sorrow

Boss

A literal ghost — not a fight so much as a reckoning. As you wade slowly through the river, the souls of every enemy you've killed appear and drain your stamina bar toward "death." Reach The Sorrow's body, then use the Revival Pill to wake from the nightmare.

Location
The spectral river beneath Groznyj Grad
Recommendations
  • There is no combat here — just walk forward through the water
  • Use the Revival Pill from your item menu once you reach his body

Colonel Volgin

Boss · Hard

The rogue GRU colonel leading the coup, able to store millions of volts in his body and block frontal shots with electromagnetic shields. He attacks with electric arcs and shotgun/machine-gun blasts fired straight from his own hands.

Location
Groznyj Grad hangar
Recommendations
  • Dodge his electric strikes with CQC and shoot his blind spot from behind
  • Stay away when he charges up energy

Shagohod

Boss · Hard

The nuclear-armed walking tank prototype, driven by Volgin himself after the motorcycle chase. Cripple its treads with the RPG-7, then finish it with rockets aimed straight at the cockpit.

Location
The wasteland beyond Groznyj Grad
Recommendations
  • RPG-7 to the treads first to immobilize it
  • Follow up with rockets to the cockpit where Volgin is piloting

The Boss

Boss · Deadly

Snake's mentor and the creator of CQC — unmatched in close combat. She rushes in to break your guard, throw you down, and fire the Patriot point-blank. You have ten minutes to defeat her before incoming missiles level the field.

Location
The field of white flowers by the lake
Recommendations
  • Counter her CQC grabs by pressing the button at the exact instant she grabs you
  • Use white camouflage to hide among the flowers and finish her with a rifle or sniper rifle
