Before You Start
Investigating Derceto — Survival Strategy
Either investigator arrives at Derceto at night with the same goal: find out why Jeremy Hartwood really hanged himself in the attic. The controls take some getting used to and several of the house's threats can't be fought head-on, so this guide leans on knowing which fights to skip entirely as much as which ones to win.
Difficulty:(Hard — Stiff Controls, Unforgiving Puzzles)
Key Points
- Character Choice: Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood — no gameplay difference
- Controls: Tank-style movement, two interchangeable key schemes
- Combat: Firearms fail against several supernatural enemies — check what actually hurts each one
- Falls: Falling from height kills instantly, regardless of remaining health
Recommendations
- Save liberally and often — nothing in this game limits how many times you can save.
- Never assume a weapon works on everything. Ghosts, the Spectral Hunter, and Pregzt's corpse all shrug off the wrong kind of attack.
- Only light the Oil Lamp inside rooms that are actually dark — its fuel is limited and can't be refilled once you run out of oil cans.
- Don't discard the Old Cavalry Saber's pieces even after it breaks — you'll want them later.
