Weapons

Every firearm and melee weapon found around Derceto, with the ammo they use and what they're actually good against — firearms don't work on everything here.

Melee

Old Cavalry Saber

The first real weapon most investigators find. Serviceable against zombies in a pinch, but hold onto any pieces if the blade breaks — it serves another purpose later in the house.

Location
3rd Floor — bedroom chest (Chest Key from the desk)
Features
  • Available very early
  • Cuts down zombies in a few hits
  • The blade can snap off with repeated use
  • Weaker per hit than the Knight's Sword

Knight's Sword

A durable blade that never breaks, pulled loose from the animated suit of armor on the second floor landing. From this point on it's the reliable fallback whenever ammunition runs short.

Location
2nd Floor Landing — thrown out of the suit of armor by hitting it with the Heavy Statuette
Features
  • Unbreakable
  • Effective against nearly everything melee can touch, including Pregzt's corpse
  • Requires solving the statuette-and-armor trick to obtain

Ranged

Rifle

A working rifle found right at the start of the investigation. Reliable against zombies, but its paper cartridges make it useless the moment the shells get wet — don't carry it through flooded areas expecting it to still fire afterward.

Location
Attic — inside the wooden chest
Features
  • Rifle Shells
  • Two shells kill a zombie outright
  • Strong damage per shot
  • Uses old cartridge-paper shells that are ruined if soaked in water
  • Slow to bring up compared to the Revolver

Revolver

A modern sidearm that keeps working even after a soaking, unlike the Rifle. Reload it as soon as it's found by dumping loose bullets from inventory into the gun to save space.

Location
1st Floor — Kitchen, inside the shoebox
Features
  • Revolver Bullets
  • Modern copper cartridges are unaffected by water
  • The only reliable answer to the Spider-Rat-thing
  • Lower stopping power per shot than the Rifle

Bow & Arrows

Mostly a one-trick tool: fire an arrow down the second floor art gallery to dispel a possessed painting before it can attack. Thrifty investigators can throw an arrow instead and retrieve it afterward.

Location
Bow: 3rd Floor storage area. Arrows: 1st Floor conservatory, on the central statue
Features
  • Arrows
  • Silently dispels possessed paintings from a distance
  • Arrows can be retrieved after use
  • Very limited ammo supply
  • Situational — mostly useful against one specific gallery hazard

Special

Sacrificial Dagger

Ritual Weapon

A dagger empowered for exactly one purpose: ending the Spectral Hunter that guards the entrance to Derceto's library. Nothing else in the investigator's arsenal can touch it.

Location
2nd Floor Redux — secret ritual chamber behind the library's hidden mechanism
Features
  • The only weapon that can kill the Spectral Hunter
  • One well-placed strike is enough
  • Only found deep in the library's secret room, after already surviving the Hunter once
