Old Snake — One Last Mission
This guide follows Old Snake’s manhunt for Liquid Ocelot from the Middle East to Outer Haven, act by act — the fastest sane route through each area, every named weapon and disguise worth a detour, and a direct strategy for every boss and Metal Gear fight. It follows a first-playthrough line on Solid Normal: it does not chase a no-kill / no-alert run, and each boss section gives the straightforward lethal approach.
Difficulty:
Hard
Key Points
- Playable character: Old Snake, aging rapidly, kept upright by syringes, OctoCamo, and Drebin’s supply network
- Core system: OctoCamo auto-mimics whatever surface Snake presses against; the Solid Eye adds night vision, infrared, binoculars, and enemy data
- Battlefield alignment: Helping the local militia against the PMCs — or wearing the Act’s rebel disguise — turns whole areas friendly
- Drebin Points (DP): Earned from looted weapons and clean play, spent at Drebin’s shop; 20% off Wed/Sun, half price for all of Act V
- Key threats: PMC soldiers, FROGs, Gekko and Scarab walkers, the four Beauty and the Beast bosses, and Metal Gear duels
Recommendations
- Keep the suppressed Mk. 2 tranquilizer equipped as your default — it keeps you off the radar and off the kill count.
- Buy a sniper rifle early (M14EBR, later DSR-1 or M82A2); a lot of this route is solved by scoping from cover.
- Hoard Chaff Grenades wherever the guide flags them — they neutralize the Scarab swarms in Act IV.
- Use Solid Eye infrared to read footprint trails, spot Claymores and Sleep Mines, and find the Beauties — but cut it near FROGs and Crying Wolf, who hear its hum.
- Hand wounded militia healing items to turn areas friendly, and stop for scripted audio flashbacks — each is a free 1000 DP.
