    Outer Haven — Bow

Snake and Rat Patrol 01 are dropped onto the deck of Outer Haven, with Snake landing at the bow. FROGs patrol the deck in a constant state of caution here, so move carefully but quickly — getting spotted makes clearing Alert phase or fighting your way through the FROGs much harder than staying hidden. Head north, sticking to cover and crouched paths, until Gekko join in further along.

    Dead End Ahead

The path north ends at a sealed door with no other way out — and the Gekko chasing you will make it impossible to open cleanly if you don't deal with them first.

Equip the Rail Gun if you have it, take a corner, and fire on the Gekko while switching to a lighter weapon for any FROGs nearby — a single fully charged Rail Gun shot should be enough to take down a Gekko, so there's no rush. Once they're clear, mop up the remaining FROGs and open the door to continue down the corridor to the elevator.

    Command Center

Rest in the first room to restore health and Psyche before pushing on to the command center. Snake finds Meryl unconscious — and the FROGs find both of you at the same time. Clear every FROG in the room without letting them reach her.

    Boss: Screaming Mantis

    Screaming Mantis

    Boss · Deadly

Dodge the projectiles and ride out the blackout without panicking. Injecting yourself with the syringe restores full control, letting you target one of the small dolls circling Mantis — knock one free and pick it up.

    Attacks
    • Throws FROG-shaped psychic projectiles
    • Briefly blacks out the screen entirely
    • Possesses Meryl and uses her as a living shield
    Strategy
    • Wait out the screen going black rather than moving blindly
    • Use the syringe on yourself to shake off the nanomachine mind control and fire freely
    • Shoot the psychic dolls circling her, not Mantis herself, at first
    • Never fire directly at Meryl once she's possessed
    • Tranquilize Mantis once you've pried a doll loose and added it to your inventory

With a doll in hand, throw it at Mantis while dodging the FROGs still attacking you; it should latch onto her. It may take a couple of tries. Once it sticks, a prompt appears (hold L1 and shake the controller) for a heavy damage burst. In the final phase, tranquilize her the same way as the other B&B members.

    Missile Hangar

Run forward through the hangar corridors. A cutscene introduces the Dwarf Gekko stationed here — don't waste ammunition on them, just keep moving.

At the end of the hall, more cutscenes lead Snake into the microwave corridor toward GW. You can't save or pause here. It starts as a straightforward walk forward, but as the microwave radiation wears Snake down, he collapses and has to crawl — mash the prompted button continuously to keep him moving; this isn't a quick tap, it takes sustained effort.

    Final Battle: Liquid Ocelot

    Liquid Ocelot

    Boss · Hard

The story's last fight is a wordless, hand-to-hand duel between two old soldiers. It plays out in three rounds, each following the same basic pattern: block with L1 and strike with R1 the moment Liquid stops attacking. In the third and final round, there's no health bar and the camera pulls in close — just keep pressing R1 throughout.

    Attacks
    • Hand-to-hand strikes and grapples
    • No firearms — the fight is settled with fists
    Strategy
    • Block with L1 and watch for the moment he stops attacking
    • Strike with R1 the instant he opens up
    • In the third round, forget blocking — just keep pressing R1
