The Codec transceiver is your primary support lifeline throughout the operation. Memorize and tune to key mission personnel:

• 140.85 — Colonel Roy Campbell & Dr. Naomi Hunter: Tactical objectives, mission intel, and physiological/medical monitoring.

• 140.96 — Mei Ling: Mission data analysis and game saving.

• 140.15 — Meryl Silverburgh: Inside operative contact (unlocked after interrogating Kenneth Baker).

• 141.12 — Dr. Hal Emmerich (Otacon): Engineering support and Metal Gear REX structural blueprints.

• 141.52 — Nastasha Romanenko: Military and nuclear weaponry treaty analyst.

• 146.07 — Master Miller: Arctic survival specialist and sub-zero wildlife advisor.

  Tune to Codec 140.96 before entering unexplored complexes or following demanding firefights to prevent loss of progress.

The Soliton Radar displayed in the upper-right corner outlines local geometry, Genome Soldier positions, and active field-of-view sweeps:

• Normal Status: Sentries follow predetermined patrol routes. Blue vision cones indicate their sightlines.

• Evasion Status: If a sentry hears a sound (splashing water, snow footprints, or wall knocks), they investigate. The radar cuts out and a countdown timer starts.

• Alert Status (Red): Full combat alert. Enemy strike teams will aggressively chase and shoot Snake. The radar stays jammed until you break sightlines by hiding in air ducts, under vehicles, or in lockers until the countdown clears.

  Radar Jamming & Interference

  The Soliton Radar automatically jams in areas with dense electromagnetic interference or immediately upon throwing a Chaff Grenade.

Field combat rations are your insurance against death. If you keep a ration equipped in your active item slot, it will automatically trigger upon taking lethal damage, instantly restoring Snake's vitality to full health.

Take care in sub-zero sectors (such as Vulcan Raven's refrigerated warehouse), as extreme cold will freeze your rations, rendering them unusable until thawed near hand-dryers or steam pipes.
