Tank Hangar & Holding Cells B1

Exiting the ventilation shaft brings you onto the upper catwalk of the Tank Hangar:

• Gun Cameras: Two automated surveillance cameras cover the east and west walkways.
• Thermal Goggles: Enter the only unlocked room on the upper level. Toss a Chaff Grenade to blind the interior camera, then collect the Thermal Goggles and extra Chaff Grenades.

Descend the stairs to the ground floor. You can crawl beneath the armored tanks to hide from patrolling sentries in the main hallway. Approach the elevator at the north end and ride it down to Basement B1.

Step out of the B1 elevator and climb the ladder on the north wall to access another network of ventilation ducts:

• First Shaft Junction: Peering down through the grates reveals a guard on the toilet suffering from stomach cramps (Johnny Sasaki) and a female captive (Meryl) performing push-ups in her cell.
• End Shaft Grate: Drop down through the brightest grate to enter the holding cell of DARPA Chief Donald Anderson.
• Speak with Anderson: he warns Snake about Metal Gear REX's nuclear capabilities and hands over the Level 1 Keycard.
• Without warning, Anderson suddenly suffers a massive cardiac arrest and dies before Snake's eyes.

Following Anderson's death, the cell door swings open. A shaky soldier aims at Snake, only to turn and gun down three pursuing Genome Soldiers:

• Corridor Shootout: Assist your mysterious ally by positioning yourself directly beside the doorway frame. Fire with your SOCOM the moment sentries enter to eliminate them before they can lob grenades.

• After repelling the waves, the soldier dashes up the stairs and vanishes.

• In the adjoining hallway, witness the eerie psychic manifestation of a levitating masked figure: Psycho Mantis.

• Search the B1 offices with your Level 1 Keycard to gather SOCOM ammo in the restrooms and office desks.

• Return to the elevator and press B2 to descend to the armory basement.

  Shootout Positioning

  Tucking yourself firmly against the doorframe prevents enemies from flanking and protects you from grenade blast radiuses.
