Past the Bolshaya Past base, Ocelot intercepts you personally at a deep stone canyon:

Revolver Ocelot (Canyon Duel)

Difficulty

A quickdraw duel across a stone canyon. Ocelot never closes the distance — patience and cover discipline win this fight far more than raw reflexes.

• Revolver shots across the canyon gap
• Repositions along the rock ledges between shots

Strategy

• Use the rock outcroppings as cover between exchanges
• Memorize his reload timing and land your shot the instant his revolver runs dry

The fight ends with Snake falling into the pitch-black caves below.

• Light the torch, or equip the night vision goggles, to navigate the flooded underground maze.
• Take your time exploring the side branches — several useful items are tucked away in the cave's dead ends.

At the heart of the cave system, the first member of Cobra Unit is waiting.

The Pain

His entire body doubles as a living hive, immune to standard gunfire until you strip the swarm away.

• Living wasp-swarm barrier that blocks conventional bullets
• Bee-carried grenade bursts
• Decoy bee clones to bait your shots

Strategy

• Submerge in the cave water to dodge his mass insect attacks
• Break his armor with the M37 shotgun or heavy weapons and explosives
• Unload on his exposed body the instant his shield drops
