Push through the rocky mountains of Krasnogorje, heavily defended with rocket-armed soldiers, artillery, and helicopters, until you reach a network of underground trenches and tunnels.

The Fury in the Tunnels
The Fury
His flamethrower makes the claustrophobic tunnels brutal to fight in head-on — hit-and-run is far safer than standing your ground.

Disguised as Major Raikov
Groznyj GradSokolov (held captive)Entering the sprawling military base of Groznyj Grad, you need to disable Major Raikov, steal his uniform, and wear it to bluff your way into the main wing where Sokolov is being held.
The Disguise Won't HoldVolgin sees through it almost immediately. This is scripted — you're disarmed and taken prisoner regardless of how careful you were, so don't waste resources trying to avoid it.

Torture, Escape & the Spectral River
Snake is discovered inside Groznyj Grad and handed over to Volgin, who personally tortures him for information. It's a scripted scene — just let it play out.
Volgin's torture. You come to locked in a cell, stripped of your gear, and the objective is to break out. The fastest way is to tune your radio to 144.75.
The frequency to escape the cell. Making the call opens the cell door for you instantly. (You can also play dead to lure the guard in, take his key, and leave the conventional way.)
The Groznyj Grad cell. From there you head into the sewers to meet up with EVA, but Ocelot's unit intercepts you on the way — you take a hit and go down wounded, and the chase ends in a long fall down a waterfall into a spectral river.
The Sorrow
There's no combat here. Wading through the river, the souls of every enemy you've killed appear and slowly drain your stamina toward "death." Reach The Sorrow's body at the far end, then use the Revival Pill to wake up and reunite with EVA behind the waterfall.
