September 2000. Three years following the Manhattan Incident, Aya Brea now serves as an FBI special operative within M.I.S.T. (Mitochondrial Investigation and Suppression Team). When a violent outbreak of neo-mitochondrial creatures strikes the Akropolis Tower in downtown Los Angeles, Aya uncovers evidence of Artificial Neo-Mitochondrial Creatures (ANMCs). Her pursuit leads her to the desolate desert town of Dryfield, Nevada, and into the depths of a massive secret underground research complex known as The Shelter, where the future of human evolution hangs in the balance.
