    Outside Silent Hill

After James stares out at the fog from the overlook, the town map is waiting on the driver's seat of his car. The main road is blocked, so head left toward a set of stairs at the end of the path. Follow the trail down to a well — the red square inside it is your first save point.

  1. 2

    The Cemetery

Continue through a gate into the cemetery, where you'll meet Angela, another lost soul drawn to Silent Hill for reasons of her own. There's nothing else to do here — cross the cemetery entirely and exit through the far gate, then keep following the road past a few abandoned cars until you reach a fenced tunnel. Step through carefully: it leads to the town's first real melee encounter (it goes down fast). Beating it hands you the Radio, which crackles with static whenever something dangerous is nearby.

    Into the Streets

Backtrack to Lindsey Street, cross through Katz Street, and continue to Martin Street. A corpse at the far end of the road can be examined for the Apartment Door Key. Head back to Katz Street and follow it toward the Woodside Apartments — use the key on the gate, then enter through the main door.

Woodside Apartments — Finding the Flashlight

Grab the apartments map from the board on your left, then explore a little for supplies if you'd like. It's still pitch dark, so navigate without the map for now: head up to the second floor and take the third door on the right, Room 205.

    Room 205Flashlight

A mannequin inside is holding the flashlight you need — brace for a scare before you grab it. With it equipped, you can finally read the map properly.

    The Clock Puzzle

Head back to the stairs and up to the third floor. A locked gate blocks the way right, but there's a key on the floor nearby — picking it up triggers a brief encounter with a mischievous little girl. Check the map and head to Room 301, where a shopping cart holds a Handgun. Then go back down to the second floor and enter Room 208: examine the body in the armchair, then take the Room 202 Key from the shelf on the left.

Head straight to Room 202 and check a hole in the wall on the right side for the Clock Key. This unlocks the clock back in Room 208 — the solution comes from a riddle written on a wall in an adjoining room, naming three people (Henry, Milfred, and Scott) and pointing to a specific time:

    9-10-15

Set the clock to that time (hour-minute-second) and drag it aside to reveal a gap into Room 209.

Clearing the Rest of the Building

From Room 209's hallway, head left through a blue door and up the stairs to the third floor for the Emergency Stairway Key — the same girl who kicked it there earlier. Head to Room 307 for an unsettling scene; once it's over, grab the Courtyard Key from the closet James hid in.

    First floor hallwayCanned Juice

Take the stairs down to the first floor and walk the hallway to its end for a can of juice. Head back up to the third floor, then down again to the second, into Room 209, through the clock gap, and into the door-less room to the south — drop the can down the garbage chute there.

Exit the building the way you came in; a dumpster to the right holds the Old Man's Coin (fished out of the trash you just dropped). Back inside, use the Courtyard Key on the door at the foot of the stairs to reach the courtyard, and check the pool for the Snake Coin, hidden in a baby stroller.

Through the courtyard's other door is Room 101, where you'll meet Eddie in the bathroom. Afterward, backtrack and re-enter through the other courtyard door, head to the second floor, and take the emergency exit at the end of the hall to leave Woodside Apartments behind.

Blue Creek Apartments — The Coin Puzzle

You've arrived in a new, shorter building, starting in a bedroom without a map yet.

    Optional: The Safe

The bathroom toilet shows a combination as a sequence of directional arrows — the safe itself is in the room to the right, if you want to chase it down.

Head right to a white door for the area map and a staircase down. Go to Room 109 and open the white door inside for a familiar face — once the scene ends, you'll have a Knife (not usable as a weapon, but examining it can shift which ending you get). Grab the Prisoner's Coin from a side table before leaving.

With all three coins in hand, head to Room 105 for an old writing desk. On Normal difficulty, the solution is:

    • Second slot: Old Man's Coin
    • Center slot: Prisoner's Coin
    • Last slot: Snake Coin

This opens the desk and yields the Lyne House Key.

    Up the Stairs

Use the Lyne House Key at Room 209 on the second floor. Cross the balcony into the room next door for the Apartment Stairway Key (a good spot to save, too), then return to Room 209 and head out to use the key on the blue door at the end of the hall — straight to the stairs, and straight into the game's first boss.

    Boss Fight: Pyramid Head

    Pyramid Head

    Boss · Medium

The saga's most iconic silhouette makes its first appearance. Equip the Handgun — you'll be using it properly for the first time — and keep circling to maintain distance, since the landing doesn't give you much room. Keep firing until Pyramid Head retreats down the stairs and sinks into the flooded water below; that ends the fight. Once it's over, the water drains away and the stairs open up, letting you finally leave the building.

    Attacks
    • Slow, heavy melee lunges
    • Closes distance faster than it looks
    Strategy
    • Keep your distance in the cramped stairwell landing
    • Load the Handgun from the menu beforehand instead of mid-fight
